The basal implant is designed to reach the cortical part of the bone. Contrary to popular belief, it is not taller. The cortex is the hardest part of bone tissue. This bone of very good quality does not atrophy or does very little. In order to reach this part of the bone, there are nearly a hundred different shapes and sizes of basal implants which will be selected according to the anatomy of each patient.
The basal implant is an immediate dental implant. This means that the entire treatment is completed in 5-7 days in a single step and that the basal implant can be placed immediately after the extraction of one or more teeth.
IIF analyzes have shown that immediate implantation with basal implants results in a higher success rate. For this reason, we advise patients with extractions to be performed to do them at the same time as the placement of the implants.
The immediate installation of the fixed prosthesis consists in fixing the latter in a short time (3 to 4 days) after the installation of the implants. With the basal implant, immediate loading is imposed by a strict protocol. Indeed, the fixation of the prosthesis allows to distribute the chewing forces over all the basal dental implants.
In smokers, the placement of conventional dental implants is not recommended. For them, the basal implant will be recommended since its smooth titanium texture prevents peri-implant-type infections from developing.
The studies carried out reveal an identical success rate in smokers and non-smokers, while studies by the CNRS place smoking as a major cause of rejection of conventional dental implants with 11.28% of postoperative problems.
The basal implant is implanted using a micro-drilling of less than a millimeter to guide the implant. Thanks to this shape, the basal implant takes its place naturally in the bone tissue without trauma. Its placement is therefore painless, rapid and bloodless.
